Every year the guild members vote on a service project for that year. Guild members donate items made by the membership. The Guild also participates in The Heifer Project, which provides livestock and training to people in need around the world.
GUILD PROJECTS FOR 2011
We’re excited to be partnering once again with the Crittenden Center for our annual community service project. The Centerprovides mental and behavioral health care for children and adolescents. Here’s the project info from Wendy Borders: “They have about 250 kids and they want each one to get a hat/mittens set at Christmas (We're not the only group working with them). Also, kids with inappropriate behaviors and high energy problems are taught to moderate their actions through a program that includes using calming tactile objects. They need little pillows- small enough to be included in a shoebox with some other things.
For kids that are easily excitable: pillows that are soft, fluffy, smooth, velvety, lacy and beautiful are good.
For kids that need to be drawn out: pillows that are ridged, rough and/or visually stimulating would be good. The pillows can be embroidered, have ironon
transfers, be pieced like a tiny quilt-top and/or be edged in lace. They are not necessarily square, just small like 4" by 5" or 3" x 6"- to be part of a collection of things in a shoebox. No buttons, zippers, fringe or things that can be chewed off. Between the warm hat & mittens and the intriguing and
creative pillows, I think we could have a lot of fun with this.”
