Featured MemberHere is where we showcase one of our members (to the delight of some and consternation of others). Get to know your fellow Fiber enthusiasts a little better. Find Previous Member Bios on the Guild Members page. Barbara CoganThis Member Bio is reprinted from the August 2003 Newsletter. Barbara Cogan has the distinction of being the Guild's senior member. 2004 will mark her 38th year. That's a lot of warping time. She was president during the 1979-80 year and has been a contributing member since 1966. Barbara learned "how to" from her aunt, Thelma Johnson, a charter member of the Weavers Guild. Aunt Thelma's loom was a 10-harness, 45 inch Macomber that Barbara now has, but will soon belong to Thelma's grand-daughter. Barbara's first loom was made by Ralph Johnson, Thelma's husband. Several years ago members of the Guild wove a wall hanging, which is permanently displayed in the Loose Park Garden Center. Each weaver wove a 12 inch square. Barbara's contribution is three across and seven down. Not only from Peter Collingwood, Mary Snyder of KU's Art Department, and numerous workshops has Barbara received instruction and help along her weaving path, but members at Guild "Show & Tell" have inspired her as well. Barbara and her husband, Arthur, live in Prairie Village. They often spend summers in Hawaii. When asked why weaving has been so appealing to her, she has said without hesitation, "Oh, the challenge of it!". - Maxine Erickson |
